Accelleron invests in Italy

Baden - The Accelleron subsidiary OMT has announced significant investments in Italy. It is planning total investments of around 80 million US dollars at the Turin and Brescia sites by 2029.

(CONNECTAccelleron Industries AG plans to grow in Italy with its subsidiary OMT, according to a statement. The turbocharger specialist from Baden in the Swiss canton of Aargau is focusing on growth in injection systems and is investing in capacity increases as well as a new technology center. Sales from injection systems are expected to double to 150 million US dollars by 2029. Total investments of 80 million US dollars are planned.

“Fuel injection plays a key role in decarbonizing the maritime industry, and we see high demand for advanced dual fuel systems, which can inject two different fuels. Market demand is higher than what we can meet with our current capacities,” Daniel Bischofberger, CEO of Accelleron, is quoted as saying.

In 2023, Accelleron acquired OMT (Officine Meccaniche Torino SpA), a supplier of marine injection systems. Last year, OMT acquired the Italian company OMC2, which has a factory in Brescia, and the workforce grew organically and through the acquisition by 44 per cent to 375 employees.

A “central pillar of OMT’s growth strategy” is the capacity increase at the existing factory in Turin, according to the statement. Investments in new machinery have already been made, and there are plans to hire around 150 new employees within the next three years, writes the company. By mid-2026, a new technology center will be built, offering more than 1,200 square meters for testing, assembly and prototype production, as well as new office space for 100 employees. This will provide OMT with additional space for planned capacity increases in 2027 and 2028. Accelleron's board of directors has approved a total investment of 27 million US dollars for this purpose. ce/gba
