Axpo and R.Power join forces to optimize energy storage facility
(CONNECT) Axpo and the Warsaw-based renewable energies producer R.Power have signed an optimization services agreement for an energy storage system, as detailed in a statement. Upon completion, the project in Jedwabne in north-east Poland will be one of the largest battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Poland and will play its part in balancing the power grid and supporting renewable energies.
The optimization agreement runs until the end of 2037. Construction of the 150-megawatt/300-megawatt-hour BESS (Building Energy Storage System) got underway this year. The optimization of the BESS is the latest project in a long-term collaboration between Axpo Polska and the R.Power Group, which already encompasses several power purchase agreements (PPAs) for solar energy with a total capacity of approximately 300 megawatts.
“I’m delighted to be extending our cooperation with R.Power into a new area, namely the optimisation of energy storage facilities”, comments Mateusz Marczewski, Managing Director of Axpo Polska, adding that: “A key aspect of this project was to design a contract aligned with dynamically evolving operational and regulatory standards. This will ensure that the installation can participate efficiently in the market and provide balancing services”.
Axpo has already been operating in Poland for 25 years and, according to information from the company itself, is one of the largest independent energy traders and renewable energy customers in the country. Axpo Polska supplies around 35,000 companies, administers a portfolio of renewable energies amounting to around 16 terawatt hours, implements large-scale photovoltaic projects and develops energy storage facilities and biogas power plants.
R.Power focuses on photovoltaic and wind projects as well as battery energy storage systems. ce/ja
