Axpo supplies electricity to German steel producer Feralpi Stahl

Baden/Riesa - Axpo, an energy company from Baden in the Swiss canton of Aargau, has signed a full supply contract with Feralpi Stahl. It guarantees a secure electricity supply from Axpo to the steel manufacturer, with peak loads of more than 100 megawatts. With the agreement, Axpo is expanding its electricity supply to energy-intensive industrial companies in the German market.

(CONNECTAxpo and Feralpi Stahl's electric steel plant have signed a full supply contract. Starting in January 2026, Axpo will supply electricity to the Feralpi site in Riesa in Germany, which will be adapted to the highly volatile load profiles of energy-intensive steel production, according to a statement. "With this full supply solution, we are guaranteeing Feralpi Stahl a reliable and economical electricity supply – even during peak loads of more than 100 MW at the plant,” Johannes Pretel, Managing Director of Axpo Germany, is quoted as saying. The energy service provider's many years of expertise in managing large, flexible industrial consumers reportedly forms a solid basis for implementing the project.

Axpo has been active in the German market for over 20 years. According to the statement, the company brings to the contract its experience in procurement, balancing group management, and risk management for supply energy-intensive industrial companies.

Security, cost-effectiveness, and flexibility in electricity supply are given priority in the German market, it adds. Axpo says it aims to help ensure that electricity is guaranteed for energy-intensive construction steel production, even during peak loads of more than 100 MW, through precise procurement, scheduling, and risk management. “Associated reporting and forecasts will increase the plant’s operational planning reliability, while price and volume risks are systematically managed,” writes Axpo.

For Feralpi, the agreement means a secure power supply at its energy-intensive site in Riesa. “With the full supply contract, we’re creating the basis for managing our production efficiently and sustainably,” Uwe Reinecke, General Manager of Feralpi Stahl, is quoted as saying. ce/heg
