Bertschi opens trimodal terminal in Antwerp for hazardous goods
(CONNECT) Bertschi Group opened the new Antwerp Zomerweg Terminal on May 7. According to a press release, the facility at one of Europe’s largest integrated chemical clusters has a total area of 60,000 square meters and is tailor-made for the storage of hazardous chemical goods and non-hazardous goods in tank containers. It provides space for 2,500 containers, including 1,290 containers for dangerous goods. There are 60 heating places for tank containers to heat products on site.
The terminal is connected to rail and road transportation as well as to open-sea and inland shipping. The four handling tracks are each 650 meters in length, meaning that they can house entire trains.
Bertschi’s CEO Jan Arnet commented on the terminal’s inauguration: “We are proud to open this new terminal and expand our logistics capacity here in Antwerp. With the modern infrastructure, we can offer our customers efficient and secure handling of liquid dangerous goods imports and exports, including storage and intermodal distribution.”
Jacques Pitteloud, the Swiss Ambassador to Belgium, and Johan Klaps, Alderman of the Port of Antwerp, also spoke at the opening ceremony.
