BRUGG Pipes supplies special pipes for an aerospace application
(CONNECT) BRUGG Pipes, which is based in Kleindöttingen in the canton of Aargau and forms part of the BRUGG Group AG headquartered in Brugg, also in the Swiss canton of Aargau, has supplied two special pipes to a European aerospace company from Wunstorf, a town in the German federal state of Lower Saxony. The vacuum-insulated cryogenic pipelines are to be used as part of a test infrastructure for new propulsion systems, as detailed in a statement.
The flexible pipelines, which were assembled at the factory, connect an elevated tank for cryogenic media to a lower-lying engine test facility. The two pipelines measure 185 meters in length in each case. In this context, two individual pipes of 90 and 95 meters in length respectively were installed for each pipeline. The advantage of this pipe length is that only one connecting element was required, which served to reduce assembly effort and increase the operational reliability of the pipelines. In cryogenic applications, leak tightness is a critical safety factor, whereby the pipe systems are designed to be used in temperatures as low as -200 degrees Celsius. They are equipped with a redundant leak detection system.
In addition to manufacturing the pipes, BRUGG Pipes was also responsible for handling the planning, assembly and installation of the pipelines. All of the welded parts and connections were inspected using X-ray technology both at the factory and on site. ce/ww
