BRUGG Pipes supplying district heating network in France

Kleindöttingen/Brugg/Les Sables d’Olonne - BRUGG Pipes has delivered district heating pipes to France via special transport. These pipes are to be used for a seawater-based district heating network in the coastal resort of Les Sables d’Olonne.

(CONNECTBRUGG Pipes, which is based in Kleindöttingen in the canton of Aargau, Switzerland, has secured a contract from the French company Ecoplage for the supply of district heating pipes. According to a press release issued by company, which is part of the BRUGG GROUP AG in Brugg, also in the canton of Aargau, these special pipes will be used for a district heating network in Les Sables d’Olonne, a seaside resort on the Atlantic coast of western France. The energy from the freshwater discharged into the sea will be used to feed the network via heat pumps.

The process involves river water of approximately 7 degrees Celsius being transferred to a refrigerant via a heat exchanger. The water cooled in this way evaporates and increases in temperature as it flows through a compressor. The temperature subsequently increases to 80 degrees Celsius and transferred to the heating and hot water circuit.

To support the water supply to the heating centers, BRUGG Pipes supplied six reels of 205 meters of CALPEX PUR-KING district heating pipes. These pipes have been recognized by the Danish Technological Institute (DTI) as the pipes with the lowest heat loss in the world for the seventh time in a row.

“The length of the pipe systems delivered in one piece and the customer-specific branch pieces were also decisive factors in awarding the contract to BRUGG Pipes”, comments Martin Rigaud, Head of District Heating at BRUGG Pipes, in the press release. ce/ww
