Axpo accelerates expansion in the German market
(CONNECT) The Baden-based energy provider Axpo is pressing ahead with its expansion in the German market with two new ground-mounted solar power plants. The plants have been operational since May and are located in Borgdorf-Seedorf and Eisendorf in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein. They have a total capacity of 30 megawatts peak and 15 megawatts peak, respectively, bringing the combined annual output to 45 gigawatt-hours. According to a statement, the plants can therefore cover the average annual energy consumption of 20,000 German households and save over 13,800 tons of CO2 per year.
With the commissioning of the two plants, Axpo is feeding solar power into the German electricity grid for the first time. “Germany is a key market for Axpo,” explains Antoine Millioud, Head of the Axpo Solar Division. “These projects underscore our commitment to the energy transition in Europe. We combine performance, innovation and sustainability to support local stakeholders in the long term.”
The solar parks, which cover a combined area of 35 hectares, were designed to the highest standards of the photovoltaic market and are energy-optimized, performance-monitored and seamlessly integrated into the environment, as the statement outlines. Accordingly, ecological and landscape design principles were followed, and mitigation measures and sustainable management practices were implemented.
For example, Axpo has created new specific habitats for reptiles, protected traditional hedgerows and maintained existing wetlands. The company has also developed a compensation area of almost 5 hectares in the immediate vicinity of the sites, creating favorable conditions for the reproduction, recreation and feeding of the species found there. ce/nta
