INERATEC receives unprecedented recognition for power-to-liquid plant

Karlsruhe/Aarau - INERATEC, a company active in the production of sustainable fuels, has received ISCC EU certification for its ERA ONE power-to-liquid plant. This makes it the first plant of its kind in the world to receive such certification.

(CONNECT) INERATEC’s ERA ONE power-to-liquid plant in Frankfurt has received ISCC EU certification, as was reported in a statement from the German company based in Karlsruhe, which operates throughout Switzerland via INERATEC Schweiz AG in Aarau. ERA ONE is therefore “the first Power-to-Liquid plant in the world whose synthetic fuels are fully recognized as RFNBO” using the Fischer-Tropsch process. Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO) is an EU classification. The certification was granted under the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) system.

“This milestone shows that regulation, certification, and industrial production are finally starting to come together. With ISCC EU certification, the e-Fuels from ERA ONE are not only technically ready but also fully recognized in the market – exactly what is needed to make synthetic fuels a real industry in Europe,” explained CEO and co-founder Tim Böltken.

Under the EU Renewable Energy Directive III (RED III), the first binding RFNBO sub-targets are now phasing in across the transport, aviation and industry sectors. ERA ONE’s fuels can be counted towards these obligations from the moment they apply. INERATEC plans to expand its facility in early 2027 and have the upgrading units certified under ISCC EU as well. ce/jh
